Dr. Tabin is the international professor of ophthalmology at the Moran Eye Institute and helped to develop the Himalayan Cataract Project.Tabin graduated from Yale University and then earned an MA in Philosophy at Oxford University on a Marshall Scholarship. From there, he took his interest in moral philosophy and health care delivery to Harvard Medical School where he earned his MD in 1985. After completing an ophthalmology residency at Brown University and a fellowship in corneal surgery in Melbourne, Australia, Dr. Tabin returned to Nepal to work with Dr. Sanduk Ruit. Dr. Tabin adopted Ruit’s methods for delivering high quality cataract surgery at a very low cost and began teaching other Nepali ophthalmologists while running the eye hospital in Biratnagar, Nepal’s second largest city.
Dr. Tabin is a leader in both the national and international ophthalmic community. He is a member of the International Education Committee for the American Academy of Ophthalmology and teaches a course on cataract surgery at both the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons. - Cataract Surgery Techniques ( 1 Article )

Baxter McLendon has dedicated the last 10 years to international volunteer work in ophthalmology.
He graduated from College of Charleston and attended the Medical University of South Carolina. After medical school he spent two years in the U.S. Public Health Service at the National Leprosarium in Carville, La.Dr. McLendon did his residency at Medical College of Ga. and a corneal fellowship at the Nuffield Laboratory of Ophthalmology/ Oxford Eye Hospital in Oxford, England.
Baxter has spent over 10 years living and working in Tanzania, Malawi, Grenada, Guatemala, Ghana, and Belize. Has worked as volunteer in numerous countries: Haiti x7, Peru x2, Namibia Labrador, Jordan, etc.Baxter has taught small incision manual cataract extraction [ SIMCE ] in El Salvador and Iraq.
He is a member of the AAO/ Rotary Task Force [ Host An Ophthalmologist Program and has been a member of the AAO committee on international development, educational development subcommittee.Dr. McLendon is presently a clinical professor of ophthalmology; Storm Eye Institute; Medical University of South Carolina; Charleston, SC.He is currently volunteering in Belize with his wife Susan.To contact Baxter, click here.
